The Blue Lake House

Minutes from Lake Allatoona's Best Boat Ramps

When we named this home Casa Lago Azul — Blue Lake House in Spanish — we weren't being poetic. Lake Allatoona is right outside our door. The nearest boat ramp, Victoria Landing, is just 4 minutes away. The lake itself — 12,000 acres of blue Georgia water, 270 miles of pine-fringed shoreline — is the reason we built this place the way we did.

Most Lake Allatoona visitors make a long drive, find a generic hotel in Cartersville, and then spend 20 minutes fighting morning traffic to reach a boat ramp. Casa Lago Azul solves that completely. Our 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom property at 713 Mulberry Circle in Woodstock sits in the neighborhood adjacent to Lake Allatoona's most accessible access points. You're in the water before the crowds arrive.

We sleep up to 8 guests — perfect for families, friend groups, or back-to-back lake weekends with the extended crew. Come back from the lake, rinse off, and settle into the hot tub on the back patio while someone starts the fire pit. That's the Casa Lago Azul lake weekend formula, and it works every time.

Host Note Lake Allatoona is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir, which means the entire shoreline is publicly protected. No private waterfront development blocks access, water quality is managed, and there are 11+ public parks and boat ramps around the lake. Victoria Landing Boat Ramp has dual-lane concrete ramps and trailer parking for 40+ vehicles — easy access year-round.

12,000 Acres of Georgia Blue

Lake Allatoona Highlights

Created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1950 on the Etowah River, Lake Allatoona has become one of the Southeast's most visited lakes. With 12,000 acres of surface water and 270 miles of shoreline spanning four counties, there's room for everyone — from wakeboarding families to quiet-cove kayakers to serious bass fishermen.

Boating & Skiing

Lake Allatoona is fully open to all motorized watercraft — ski boats, pontoon boats, wakeboarding rigs, and jet skis all share the water. Multiple public boat ramps sit within 5 minutes of Casa Lago Azul. The protected coves off Allatoona Creek provide calmer water ideal for beginner skiers and tubers.

Fishing

Lake Allatoona is one of Georgia's top bass fisheries. The lake's varied structure — submerged river channels, rocky points, and timber-studded coves — creates excellent habitat. Cherokee and McKinney campground coves are local favorites for bass. Spring and fall bring the most productive fishing conditions.

Swimming & Beaches

Lake Allatoona has several designated swim areas with sandy beaches. Victoria Beach offers a calm, family-friendly swim zone. Tanyard Creek has a popular swim area that's less crowded than the main state park beaches. Red Top Mountain State Park's beach is lifeguarded in summer — perfect for families with young children.

Getting on the Water

Nearest Boat Ramps to Casa Lago Azul

One of the real advantages of staying at Casa Lago Azul is proximity to multiple launch points. You're never more than 10 minutes from the water — and you can choose your ramp based on where you want to fish, anchor, or explore that day.

Victoria Landing Boat Ramp

The closest public launch to Casa Lago Azul. Dual-lane concrete ramp with parking for 40+ vehicles and trailers. Day-use fees apply. Best for: ski boats, pontoon boats, and all motorized watercraft. Well-maintained year-round.

4 min

McKinney Campground Ramp

Corps of Engineers campground with a full boat launch on a protected cove. Great access to the McKinney/Cherokee bass coves. Camping available if you have family members who prefer to stay lakeside. Less crowded than Victoria Landing on summer weekends.

7 min

Clark Creek North Ramp

A solid alternative launch point with access to the main lake body. Good for heading south toward Red Top Mountain State Park or northwest toward the dam. Less congested on holiday weekends when the more popular ramps fill up.

8 min

Kellogg Creek Boat Ramp

A quieter launch at the south end of the lake. Great for accessing the Kellogg Creek coves — a local favorite for striper and crappie fishing. The sheltered cove also makes it ideal for kayaks and paddleboards if you want flat water without motorized traffic.

From Our Guests & Hosts

Lake Allatoona Local Tips

After hosting dozens of lake weekend groups, here's what we tell every guest before they arrive:

Best Time of Year

May through September is peak season — warm water, full marinas, all beaches open, and long daylight hours. The 4th of July weekend is spectacular on the lake (plan well ahead). April and October are excellent for fishing and far less crowded. The property is available year-round.

Fishing License

Georgia requires a fishing license for anyone 16 and older. You can purchase one online in minutes at georgiawildlife.com — do it before you arrive. A one-day non-resident license is $9; a 7-day is $24. Guided fishing charters are available through local outfitters if you want a local captain who knows the structure.

Allatoona Landing Marine

The nearest full-service marina is Allatoona Landing Marine — fuel dock, boat supplies, minor repairs, and a ship store. If you're trailering a boat in, stop here first to top off and grab any supplies you forgot. They also have local knowledge on where the fish are biting that week.

What to Bring

Life jackets for everyone (required by law for children on the water), reef-safe sunscreen, a cooler with ice and drinks for the boat, a waterproof dry bag for valuables, and water shoes for rocky areas. The house has basic beach gear — ask us what's available when you book.

Concierge Tip — Perfect Lake Weekend Plan Day 1: Arrive, stock the kitchen at Publix on Ridgewalk (5 min), evening in the hot tub under the stars. Day 2: Lake Allatoona — launch at Victoria Landing (4 min), swim at Victoria Beach, afternoon at Tanyard Creek coves, fire pit dinner at home. Day 3: Slow morning, Elm Street Bakery for brunch in Downtown Woodstock (10 min), browse the boutiques, drive home. That's the perfect Casa Lago Azul lake weekend.
